WES students will be participating in a school-wide community service project as part of their classroom Valentine’s Day parties on Friday, February 13.

During their parties, students will be drawing pictures to be delivered with “Breakfast Bags” for Caring for Friends, a Philadelphia non-profit organization that provides free home-cooked meals to isolated, homebound individuals. They will then assemble the breakfast bags with donated food items and the pictures they make during the class parties.

We are asking the WES community to donate the Breakfast Bag items. Beginning Monday, January 26, you may send donations to school with your child or leave them on the Gift of Giving table in the WES entryway.

Below is a list of items assigned to each grade:

KINDERGARTEN: Hot chocolate packets

1st GRADE: Cereal bars, granola bars or oatmeal squares

2nd GRADE: Small cereal boxes or single-serving packets of oatmeal.

3rd GRADE: Boxes of raisins or containers of pudding or fruit cups (no applesauce please, foil covers can be easily punctured.)

4th GRADE: Packaged peanut butter or cheese crackers

5th GRADE: Juice boxes

Please be sure to submit all contributions by Friday, February 6, so we can organize

items for assembly. We hope our students will not only have fun with this project but also feel good about working together to help others. Thank you for your support!

Girls on the Run registration for 3rd-5th grade girls will open Thursday, January 29th! Our WES team will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5pm. The Spring 2026 season will begin on March 3rd and conclude with a 5k at Rose Tree Park on May 2nd. Enrollment will be on a first come basis, and spots are limited. Join our team here! We are looking for volunteers to coach Girls on the Run at WES this spring! No running experience is necessary - just a desire to support a positive, empowering and inclusive program for our 3rd-5th grade girls! Coaches need to be available for at least one practice day per week, and have clearances on file with WSSD. Training and a weekly curriculum is provided. Volunteers can sign-up here or reach out to Christine Greco for more information.

Bonjour! Hola! Wie Geht’s! Ni Hao! The WES FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLUB will begin this February 2026 and welcomes new and returning students! Registration in now open to students in grades 1-5 to learn either French, Spanish, or Mandarin. Classes are taught by experienced language instructors in a fun, communicative environment. For our 5th graders, this could be a great opportunity to try out a language before choosing in middle school. The session runs for 10 weeks starting the week of February 2 and tuition is $200. Calling all WES families! Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 5th from 6-7 pm for the WES Science Fair in the WES cafeteria. Instead of completing homework at home, earn a homework pass for that night’s homework while supporting the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade student scientists as they showcase their science fair projects! Upon arrival, WES students will be given a science passport that can be completed as they visit 6 student scientists’ tables. Completed passports earn a homework pass for that night’s homework.
This is a PTO-run event and we are looking for volunteers to lead PTO-run science tables. You may sign-up to volunteer here. We hope to see you there and thank you for volunteering! It's easy.

Attention 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Parents!

Please encourage your children to take part in the WES Science Fair on Thursday, March 5th from 6-7pm. Looking for guidance or ideas, see this linked flyer! This event is entirely optional and intended to foster a love of science, and not intended to create any stress at home! Projects will not be officially judged—instead, fellow WES students and families will circulate with science passports engaging the students in discussions based on their experiments. All student scientists earn a homework pass for that night’s homework. Parents, if your child wishes to participate, please register here.
